Have you ever imagined that you would destroy the heavenly scenery “Coral reefs", while trying hard to rub the sunscreen at the beach at the same moment?
In
order to inquire deeply into this topic, I interviewed a senior student,劉冠亮, who now studies at
the department of earth science master program. He first talked about the structure
of the coral:〝
Many polyps form the coral. And the polyps will secrete the
secretion to form hard skeletons. So this is how the coral becomes. 〞Because the coral is
really delicate, only some specific and stable environment can the coral
survives and almost any kind of pollution can affect its living environment,
such as oil leak, the “sunscreen” and the global warming.
The coral bleaching is the
phenomenon that polyps cannot bear the living situation anymore, so they leave the
skeletons. Almost anything will cause mortality in high enough doses. So, it is
no doubt that the increasing doses of metallic oxide may fasten the death of the
coral.劉冠亮said:” I would not
suggest that the sunscreen is the primary reason the coral is collapsing, but
every reason is connected.”
As I informed him of the
different opinions about this news between Taiwanese experts and American, he
claimed that it’s about the “publication”. The science publication can change
rapidly and continuously. Thus, there is unnecessary to discuss who is correct
and who is wrong. The publication has no certain authority, it is just a form.
At the end of our conversation, he said
that by all accounts, global warming does not have too much impact on Taiwan as
we used to think. “It is just the scale problem.” he said. As a whole, the
temperature of the globe is relatively lower. He also emphasized that the
global warming is somehow the way the politicians manipulate the policy. Such
approaches as the transaction of the carbon emission and any sort of carbon
dealing are all about the matter of money.
